Ecological tourism is also termed as ecotourism. As defined by WTO that is world tourism organization, it highlights only 2 to 3 percent of the international travel spending. The year 2002 was titled as the international year of ecological tourism by United States.
As the name suggests tourism means travelling. The term ecological tourism is travelling to dainty and basically protected areas and it is done mostly on small scale and to educate the people about the tour plans available. Keeping in mind the economic development and eco-friendly atmosphere, the tours are planned. Portugal offers excellent ecological travel tours to unpolluted areas, where one can meet peace and greenery all around. Because it is said, what you see is what you think, what you think is what you speak, what you speak is what is on your mind added with the environment in which you are living. So keeping all these healthy thoughts in mind it is necessary to see health, in an order to think healthy, so that you speak healthy and this all can be possible with one main motive to be processed; that is to stay in a healthy and in an eco-friendly environment.
This has become one of the popular industrial sectors and the heat sector of today. It varies from person to person and their keen interests to take the responsibility of thinking about the nature. It can be considered as volunteering.

The basic advantage is that it focuses on personal development, environmental responsibility etc. In some places it is also named as responsible tourism because of the work done by it. Some of the names of the places which have been covered in the ecological tourism are Sado River in Portugal, the castle at Alcecer de sol and surrounding rice paddies etc.
Take a look at the history. It simply implies that Europe is not a major destination for North Americans because they think wildlife was buried years ago and there's nothing left to see. However the truth is entirely different. Europeans not only think about tourism plans but they also have a strong bent towards environment. Keeping in mind the environmental issues and with due care they elect people who can contribute to the environment and hence meet the needs and requirements of the ecological tourism in Portugal.
There was a recent visit to a tiny village of Carrasqueira via the small city of Setubal in Portugal in September 2001. In the hills of south-eastern Portugal there is a nesting ground and local people of Portugal call it a stopping place. This is because more than 200 species of birds stop here every year as a centre place in between North Europe and Africa. With its scenic beauty and meditative lands, there can be no better place to try eco tourism other than Portugal. The deep connection between such kind of tourism and the country can only be felt by one when one visits the place.
